Have you ever gone shopping, stumbled across a beautiful ingredient that you simply couldn’t leave without, heard the swell of french accordian music in your head, suddenly became the imaginary main character in a Nora Ephron film, and couldn’t wait to get home to live out your fantasy as chef extraordinaire in your own kitchen? Yeah, Me too!
Hi! I’m Andreya and cooking used to be joyful, not a drudgery, and even if it can’t be every day or even every month, Just Here to Cook is all about celebrating those luxurious days spent in the kitchen. Those moments surrounded by sizzles of butter and perfumes of garlic, of spending hours cooing over a bolognese sauce and making fresh pappardelle with your own two hands, of taking days to cure then slowly confit duck legs to succulent perfection, of feeding your sourdough starter today so you can make dough tomorrow and bake it fresh the following morning. It’s about the pleasure of cooking. It’s about old school technique- no plastic bags or gadgets- just your hands, good common sense, and a desire to make something worth eating.
This isn’t a place to find things to cook when you don’t feel like cooking. It’s a place to find food to make when you DO feel like cooking. So put on your aprons, turn up the music, and settle in for a few hours in the kitchen!
OK, I fibbed a bit… there are some easy meal recipes here. “There’s Nothing to Eat” is a series of simple ideas that you can make with random ingredients you find in your cupboards. Enjoy!
If you’re someone who would rather messy-eat a gloriously delicious bookit on the edge of a crowded street market, than only see places through the end of your selfie stick- you and I are gonna get on great!
TRAVEL will change us, if we let it. I like to write about letting it.
